David Dominici, Program Director
David Dominici is head coach of the 18-U Cheetah Premier Softball Team, as well as founder and chairman of the New Jersey Cheetahs Fast Pitch Organization. Before starting the New Jersey Cheetahs in 2004, Coach Dave's experience as coach and player dates way back.
Dave played high school baseball at Bordentown Regional High School, and as a short stop and captain of his varsity team, was named defensive player of the year in 1980.
Dave spent his high school summers starring at short stop for his American Legion Post-26 baseball team. He started playing for Post-26 at the young age of 16, was selected captain in his senior year and also selected to the Mercer County American Legion all-star team.
He then went on to college and played his first two years at Mercer County Community College. At Mercer, he batted over 300 in both his years there, and started short stop in the 1981 College World Series, where he batted over 300 during that series. In that particular college world series, his Mercer team finished with the ranking of third in the country.
From Mercer, David transferred and finished his college career at the then Division I Philadelphia Textile, now known as Philadelphia University. At Philly, he had another successful two years, and his senior year was named captain of the team.
During the summer of his college career, he played in both the Mercer County College League, as well as the Rancocas Valley Semi-Pro League. While playing in the Mercer County College League, he was named to the first team all-star team, and won the league's batting title in 1981 with a 435 average. He also starred for the Vincentown team in the Rancocas Valley League, and there he was a perennial first-team all-star, playing short stop for the powerhouse Vincentown team.
After a double wrist injury cut his playing career short in 1984, he quickly moved to the coaching side. His past coaching resume includes coaching positions at Division 1 Philadelphia Textile, Bordentown American Legion Post-26, Bordentown Senior Babe Ruth, and the Allentown High School boys' varsity team.
In 1999, Dave transitioned to softball, and has been head coach of the New Jersey Cheetahs since 2004. Along with coaching both baseball and softball, David also currently trains both baseball and softball players from youth all the way up to and including college players.
David's experience, motivation, work ethic, expectations and systems are all winning ingredients that have allowed the New Jersey Cheetahs to leap-frog to the 18-U premier softball world.
